“There is another way. I wish I had known about this a lot sooner.”

Saskia Bartholomew, Proud Dog Parent

Force-free, ethical, relationship-centred

All the help, advice and training you need for you and your brand new puppy.

Do you want to …

  • Feel informed, empowered and inspired to be your dog's advocate.
  • Understand that all behaviour is feedback on a situation, and that dogs only tell the truth.
  • Work with the dog you have in front of you, not the 'Disney dog' you wish you had!
  • Understand the value of quiet observation with no judgement where you can analyse later, rather than react in a 'knee jerk' manner.
  • Read, interpret and come to a real understanding of your dog's body language to develop a mutually trusting relationship.
  • Learn that force, punishment or negativity, however unwittingly used, have no place in this trusting relationship.
  • Know what to avoid now to ensure fewer issues or problems in the future.
How It Started

How It Started

Established in March 2021, Pawsome Puppies was created to help new dog guardians to set up themselves and their pup for success from the very first day at home.

This was a response to the Tik-Tok training movement which seemed to sweep the nation during lockdown, with unqualified 'trainers' showing videos of how to 'control' dogs using aversive and forceful methods. The perpetuation of long-disproven myths about how dogs think, feel and behave was galling to anyone who truly understands dogs. The great news is that there IS a better way, and you CAN train a dog with a positive and mutually trusting relationship at the centre of all interactions. What's more, it's backed by science and evidence. So what are you waiting for? Let's get you set up for a successful and harmonious relationship with your new canine companion!

How It Works

You will be invited to take part in a 75 minute video consultation which will be tailored to your dog, your situation/circumstances, and your specific needs.

We will chat through what you already know, bust a few myths between us and look at how you can put in place everything to ensure a happy integration of your puppy into your family. You will be pointed towards extra resources and given support by phone or message after the call so you can ask questions or clarify. You will probably need only this one consultation but you are welcome to book shorter calls as you progress with your pup to check out how you're doing and if you are still on the right track. This is totally your decision and there is no commitment or pressure to book further calls.

Why It Works

I will coach you, not your dog.

This is why I am different! I don′t offer puppy classes or one-to-one training with your pup. I coach YOU in all your different roles as guardian of and advocate for your beautiful new charge.

As a new dog parent, you will have already encountered well-meaning advice from everyone who's ever had anything to do with a dog. It's so confusing! And none of the advice you're given will be objective. It will all be based on someone else's experience of what worked for them and their dog.

But you are not them.

And your dog is unique.

  • We have the skills to look after and build a relationship with our dog that will keep her and ourselves safe, happy and content. Not only do I feel we have the practical skills to do this, but more importantly the understanding of why to do this. Thank you Babette x

A session with me will give you absolute confidence to ignore unhelpful, outdated, often unethical information and build a relationship-centred bond with your dog. I will explain the science of how a dog learns, the importance of timing, how to work towards success with toilet training and night-time sleeping with a good understanding of a puppy's brain and limits. We will bust some of the myths and put to bed some of the outdated information you may think is gospel.

  • Babette’s ethos of positive and force free training makes complete sense. I feel much more confident now. Thank you for all the logical and sensible advice which I’m sure will give us a great relationship.

I won't suggest you use 'commands' as dogs are emotional, sentient beings with an inner life of their own, and they are not army soldiers or software programs. A real understanding of how your dog learns and how to build on that as they grow is vital for a puppy to be engaged with you, willing and happy to learn, and finding joy in each other's presence.

  • Having taken the plunge to get another puppy, we wanted some good honest advice on introducing him to our 4 year old dog. I remember drowning in a sea of conflicting advice when trying to train our first puppy. The session was everything I'd hoped for and more. Huge thanks to Babette for providing a much needed service.

If you are interested in learning about your individual dog, and some of the advice you've been given is confusing and doesn't sit well with you, I'd love to hear from you. There IS a different way!

  • I have a 14 month old labrador who gets over-excited when he sees other dogs, which causes problems when he is off the lead. Have tried lots of things including group and 121 training. The improvements in his recall and behaviour in a week is simply outstanding. I feel I understand him and can read him much better already. I feel we have an even better bond. Can’t recommend Pawsome Puppies enough, thank you.

What You′ll Learn

There is a different way.

You may have realised that I don’t train your dog. In fact I don’t even need to see your dog! Why? Because it’s no good me apparently performing ‘magic’ on your pup, then walking away leaving you stumped as to why you can’t get the same outcome! I will coach you and empower you to be the best dog guardian you can possibly be with a foundation of information that will ensure you understand not just the how, but the why.

I am force-free, (this is a very different philosophy from just ‘positive reinforcement’) and I can help you to understand your dog and ensure you have the best relationship. I will not use and not agree to use any aversives, and it’s a wonderful way to work and very freeing. If this philosophy fits with your gut feeling about animals, let’s work together.

Before you book

  • Have a strong commitment to understanding your animal and to working with them in an ethical and positive manner
  • Be willing to leave behind any preconceived ideas about dogs, however these ideas have been formed
  • Commit to a date and time where you can concentrate fully for 75 minutes of your day, evening or weekend
  • Ensure you have the equipment to take part in a video call (laptop, desktop or smartphone) and be prepared to take notes
